Let's be real. The recent wave of video game movies; Sonic, Mario, Minecraft, and whatever else gets greenlit tomorrow, aren't passion projects. They're studio-executive shitposts, lazily churned out to exploit nostalgia and squeeze every last dollar from fans who just want to see their favorite pixels on a big screen.

And what do we get? The same five overexposed actors shoved into roles they don't fit, paired with writing so bland it feels like it was AI-generated to avoid offending anyone. Chris Pratt as Mario? Really? Since when is "generic quippy dude" the same as a mustachioed Italian plumber? It's like Hollywood thinks slapping a famous name on a poster is enough to make up for zero effort in casting or characterization.

The worst part? People eat it up. These movies make bank precisely because audiences have been conditioned to accept mediocrity as long as it's wrapped in enough CGI and callbacks. Remember when adaptations at least pretended to care about staying true to the source material? Now, it's just a conveyor belt of soulless, focus-grouped slop designed to trend on Twitter for five seconds before vanishing into obscurity.

Is quality completely dead, or are we just so starved for anything resembling respect for the original games that we'll take whatever slop they serve us?
